  4. 1    a) What do you think makes a 'good' manager?

  6.     b) Can you train someone to be a good manager?  Explain your view.

  9.     with you? Explain your answer.

  11. 2     What are the arguments for and against going straight into a job, 
  12.     rather than attending a university?

  14. 3    a) List the skills and attributes which you think you would need for 
  15.     a management job in the service sector.

  17.     b) As a group, arrange for the personnel officer or human resource 
  18.     manager of a local organisation to give a talk to your class. Ask him or 
  19.     her to:
  20.          i)     outline the personal qualities they seek in employees
  21.          ii)     explain how important these qualities are compared with 
  22.         academic qualifications
  23.          iii) indicate how schools and colleges could help meet the requirements 
  24.         of the employer.

  26.     c) After the talk, discuss which points surprised you and which you 
  27.     expected the speaker to make.
